Buying a new stock rig and putting on a power mic will give me a lot of good audio. The ALC circuits are cheap using only a few components. These limiters should have been designed to be used when needed — on voice peaks if needed and at the point of over modulation only. Instead, the circuit is on all the time regardless of your audio level. Buying a power mic and expecting it to sound powerful is not going to happen. You will sound the same as a cheap cordless phone. Nothing like negating the purpose of buying a power mic!
CB Radio Amplifiers Buyers Guide
There are no CB Radios with other transmit capabilities services, however. First, The Taller the antenna, the better it will work. Usually, all else being equal, the Tallest, longest antenna you are comfortable with, mounted as high as possible, will give the best performance.

You don’t want to know So if your like me and think there should be some reasoning behind the color codes and wire size, there isn’t. On the non JBL radio, there is not a external amp. The front speakers are on one connector and are pink, purple, light green, and blue. They are around 18 gauge wire. The rear speakers are on the other connector, they are black, yellow, red, and white.
They are around 16 gauge. They look like they would be the power wires for the radio, they aren’t, don’t be fooled. The ground wire is on the same connector and is the 18 gauge brown wire. Its all right here I was looking for a quick, cheap, and temporary way to put my old sub and amp in my truck.

Share on Facebook A linear amplifier is installed inline between the antenna output of a CB radio and the antenna connected to the unit. The amplifier takes the output of the radio and boosts the signal, resulting in improved transmission distance in most cases. Linear amplifiers may be designed for home or mobile applications, with the primary difference being the power connections each requires. A linear amplifier can boost the output of a CB radio. Step Place the amplifier near the radio, with 3 to 4 inches of ventilation space around the edges of the amplifier, for a home base.
In a mobile application, find a spot that has several inches of ventilation room and is close to the radio. For an amplifier for mobile use, use a screwdriver and the accompanying mounting hardware to securely fasten the amplifier. Step Unplug the antenna connected to your CB radio. Plug the antenna into the antenna jack located on the amplifier. Step Plug the amplifier’s jumper cable into the CB radio’s antenna jack.
Connect the plug or set of terminals on the other end of the jumper cable to the input jack on the amplifier. Step Plug the power cord of a home amplifier into a wall outlet, and switch the power on to operate the amplifier. For a mobile unit, attach the red and black power cords to the red and black power cables of your CB radio.

This term is synonymous with fidelity, which is to increase the power level of an input signal without altering its content. Amplifier linearity is preserving the integrity of the complex modulation formats, in conjunction with bandwidth and efficiency, to achieve high data rates of transfer. Noise Amplifier noise refers to the signals in the system which are unwanted, leading to degradation of the signal content.

The majority of CB radios have two wires, a positive wire red and a negative wire black. The positive wire needs a To do this often will require more wire than is provided with your CB radio.
If you choose to wire your radio using this method you will want to make sure that any extra wire you purchase is of the same gauge or larger than the original manufacturer’s wire. Also, if adding additional wire to the stock wiring make sure you use solid connectors that completely cover and protect any connections from being exposed. If wiring to the battery you will also want to wire in fuses of proper amperage directly at the battery.
The reason for this is because your long length of wire will most likely be going through the firewall and in between many different pieces of metal. If at any time there is a short anywhere along this run of wire the fuses directly at the battery will help prevent the possibility of an open circuit and risk of fire. These fuses are important and should be placed as close to the battery as possible, and these fuses are in addition to the standard fuse that comes on most CB radio power cords.
Most of these type plugs are rated at amps of power.
How to Hook Up a CB Linear Amp
This requires a more robust antenna and electrical system than what might be used for the more common low powered or CB radio systems. The electrical system must be capable of delivering a constant 40 amps minimum of DC current at These radios must be wired with both red positive and blue negative wires direct to the battery with 8ga for up to 10 feet and 6ga.
Attaching the negative lead to vehicle chassis ground will not work. When connecting a high power 10 meter radio to a DC power supply the power supply must be rated at a minimum of 40 amps constant at Some radio antennas that may have worked with lower powered models do not always mean they will work with high powered radios.

Curtis answered 5 years ago Look for a capacitor for car audio systems. I would look into upgrading your alternator also. Report Ilregal answered 5 years ago You need to hook those batteries correctly or you will end up with 24 volt on a 12 volt system and that’s not good for 12 volt wiring and you will be sorry. The following is how you will need to do it, If you are going to buy new 12 Volt or 6 Volt batteries for your car as your probably trying to power a monster stereo and this is how you’d want to do it for a RV also, it is important to know how to wire them properly so that you do not damage your cars electrical system.
Although this is an easy concept to understand, many people tend to get this wrong. Basically, there are two ways to wire your batteries: In RVs where 6 Volt batteries are used, you may need to use a combination of both these methods to get 12 Volt output and increase the amount of total Amp Hours simultaneously. And as usual I don’t do one liners so you might just want to cut and paste this and save it, so I’ll provide some examples also, ok With batteries wired in series, the Voltage increases but the Amperage remains the same.
If you[ take two 6 Volt batteries] that have a capacity rating of Amp Hours each and you wire them in series, you will get a total of [12 Volts] of power; however, the total Amp Hours will remain the same at a total of Amp Hours. This is how you create 12 Volts from two 6 Volt batteries. Following is a graphic that represents two 6 Volt batteries wired in series. Report Ilregal answered 5 years ago OK, so that was two 6 volt batteries at amp hours, now if you did the same with two 12 volt batteries you would have 24 volt in your car, and believe me, that’s not good!!
With batteries wired in parallel, the Voltage remains the same but the amperage increases.

Here’s what it takes to hook one up to your transceiver. Installing an amplifier is one of the fastest ways of getting more satisfaction out of your ham radio experience. While it’s true that improving the antenna is the best overall way of improving the station, antennas are a lot of work to put up and the land under them is apt to cost a lot more than any amplifier. We’ll show you here how to hook up any of the commercially available amplifiers, generally called linear amplifiers, to your transceiver covering all or part of the through 10 meter amateur bands.
Get the amplifier’s manual out and make sure it’s input level, expressed in watts, matches that of your radio.

You do want to be careful not to hook up one that is too powerful, or you could have problems with the FCC. Hooking up a linear amp can boost that wattage to 10 or even 12 watts. The linear amps help the output of the transmission. Some CB radios are just weak as far as the signal is concerned. If you live or drive in secluded areas, you may need an amp to boost your transmission signal so that people farther away can hear you. If there are homes near you when you are using a linear amp, you could bleed over onto telephones, TV and radios.
Hook up the CB to a car or as a home base. Hook up the CB antenna, and make sure that the standing wave is correct. Do not hook up a linear amp if your SWR standing wave ratio is bad. This can only damage your radio. Place the linear amp in a position close to the unit. In a car, you can place the amp on the floor or mount it to the bottom of the CB radio using the side mount brackets.
In a home, you can set it up on a table next to the unit. Unhook the CB antenna coaxial cable from the CF, and plug it into the input on the amp.

Car Audio Amplifier Troubleshooting A question often asked is how to troubleshoot a car audio amplifier that is not working. This is different than an amplifier that is in protection mode but it is related. If you believe you have everything connected properly but the amp doesn’t turn on, or if there is no output, these steps should help you track down the problem.
A car audio amplifier needs several things in order to work and we’ll check for each of these in the steps below. Is the amplifier mounted to a non-conductive surface? If the case of the amplifier is touching the metal of the vehicle, either directly through the case or through the mounting screws touching metal, there will likely be a problem. Usually this will put the amplifier in protection mode though sometimes it may not turn on at all. First, ensure that the amplifier is not touching any conductive surface of the vehicle.
Is the amplifier getting the correct power and ground? The amplifier needs a positive power input and a negative power output.
